New Music from New fuckin York
I just found out that the State of New York will be $499 richer thanks to yours truly, and to top it off the Navajo Wrap I had for lunch is killin my insides right now. Needless to say I am not feeling so hot so I will keep this short.

Outernational From the Future (Single)
1. What you Say ****
2. From the Future *****
3. Ricochet *****
Produced by wildman Eugene Hutz
This single packs a bunch of fives with the standout being the groundbreaking, genre destroying RICOCHET. Hip Hop flavored track done in 3/4 time with a horn line straight from the Sub Continent.
I do find it strange that the title track for the single comes in second, but with What You Say ending on the some chord that From the Future starts in I guess it works. Maybe trying that in the setlist would be a nice touch boys, no?
Although some say that Outernational's knack of defying genre might hurt them in selling their wares to record labels, I think that fact will keep their sound fresh and hopefully around for the years to come.
Overall a very good debut from boys from Brooklyn.
Gogol Bordello--East Infection ep
1. East Infection ***
2. Ave B *****
3. Mala Vida ****
4. Crappycat (sorry, Copycat) *
5. Strange Uncles from Abroad ****
6. Madagascar-Roumania (Tu jesty fata) *****
Yes the title is kinda dumb and immature but the song East Infection itself is pretty deep. Well, not really, but it does address (sort of) the contrived culture that we live in.
Ave B is gotta be one of the best songs GB has ever recorded. Eastern European Cumbia?? Nice!! the last track Madagascar is super as well.
Note to Eugene: play these songs next thursday for me huh?
(I guess not. No DJ Hutz @ Bulgarian Bar for the next couple of thurs, but I'm counting the days for the 5th of May!!)
Mala Vida is well Mala Vida. One of my favorite songs by Mano Negra and it perhaps has the force to bring down a venue if Gogol plays it live.
Strange Uncles from Abroad touches home for me. Come to think of it don't we all have a fucked up uncle hidden away somewhere? Scary part is many of us will become that strange uncle.
Very Clash-like tune, therefore very fuckin good.
Copycat is a throwaway track which I will ignore the existence of, hence it's absence from the playlist.
Actual Playlist

5 Comments:
Pedro is going to DJ Thursday so it should be fun even though Eugene won't be there. I'm bored so I comment.
Hey
Staten Island Girl right?
You are probably dancing around right now at bulgarian, whilst my lame ass has to get some sleep, just to go right back to work.
It's a beautiful life wo oh oh oh...
Yes, I'm the Staten Island girl. :) I had a great time dancing, it's so nice not to have anything to do the next day.
Well make sure you don't have anything to do the day after the next outenational show.
It's gonna be yours and Haley's job to get the dancefloor going as I will be busy spinning.
Oh and leave the wallflowers at home next time ;).
That I will :)
